I have been feeling very upset about the opening for a variety of reasons. Yes, the gallery was too small but even then, the work could have been hung in a respectful professional manner. Framed work was not level and work was not hung next to each other. It was all slapdash and ugly. The lighting was terrible. Many works were in the dark. There should have been refreshments and, ideally, some finger food. But since they were trying to cram over 300 artists and their friends and family into a too small gallery space, I guess they figured that there would be no room to move much less sip wine.
I paid to be part of the show because it was a gallery in Chelsea exhibiting at a time when there are many art shows in NYC. But if they don't do any press, how are they going to attract any of these art buyers? And should any buyers come into the gallery there is no list of works (with their prices) by artist so you would have to remove a work from the wall and read the back label to get any information. Too much work and not very professional.
